Week Iwa - Part 2 Podcasts

Last Lesson

Podcasts were a fun lesson. The topic range varied considerably. I visited both sites listed. I definitely preferred the graphics of podcast.com but the selection and categories were better in podcastalley.com.
It is a great way of sharing information especially random radios by unknown with views to express. I listened to a variety of reviews on Harry Potter, one in particular from the Harry Potter Fan Fiction site. It was interesting because it was many persons reviews mixed.
Not sure if I will be using it… it is actually like YouTube for audio? Also added the RSS feed to my bloglines account.

Week Iwa - YouTube

YouTube is really quite old. I haven't heard of alot of things when it has come to this Learning 2.0 but YouTube I definatley have. I have seen lots of different clips including music, the k1 fighting, stupid clips of people hurting themselves like "jackass", new movie trailers and recently they have come across a situation because people have been putting TV shows on there and they aren't very happy because it is taking away possible profits for the network. I can't really choose a favourite video but I really like the music clips and it is cool because you can load the clips from YouTube straight onto your bebo page so it is saved for you on there for whenever you want to watch it. Thinking about it one of my favourites is the little girl Bianca who won Americas got talent man can that girl sing! and she's only about 11 i think, she is really going places. Oh and the little boy whos like 5 and raps all the lyrics to LiL BowWow's song on stage in a suit how CUTE!

Week Waru - Part 2 Web 2.0

Well for the Web 2.0 sites, I went straight for the award winners and the one that caught my eye was Cocktail Builder which was awarded 1st place for fun stuff. I agree with that it does look like a very good site for cocktail connoisseurs even though Im not one at the moment but it does give some good ideas of some cocktails that are possible to make and help you look the part. You can even type in what spirits you already have and they give you a list of what you can make or the extra mixers or spirits you need to complete the cocktail or shot. The website isn't the most eye catching but they are looking for a web designer and it has the bare necessities and still made it to number 1 without it so just imagine after it has been given a total make over.

You can even stock up your collection of bar supplies such as shakers, different types of glasses etc. You can put up your own cocktail suggestions to share with others. And the BEST thing they offer is that you can type in what you have in your bar and a menu comes up with all the drinks your guests can choose from so you just print that out and your an instant bartender!

I've also obviously been through Del.icio.us which is rated 1st in the bookmarking category and I've signed up to that and have made myself an account.

I had a little play and put in some random ingredients and this is my outcome:

Week Waru - Zoho Writer

Now Zoho this was shaping out to be a very good site that I was going to recommend to my friends but the last time I tried to write this it froze on me and all my comments were lost so I will see if it turns out better this time now that I am on the computer. It looks like a good program and it looks like it would be very helpful for group work when it is hard to get together as a group but I will have to test these features and see how well it does work, but the good thing is, is that I am willing to trial there features because it does look like a promising site.

And if your reading this now it means I have been able to write up my blog on Zoho and publish it so woohoo for me.

Just show that this has been written on Zoho I thought I would change the colour of some words and give a different coloured background

and put it some emotions tongue_out wink

Week Whetu - Social Networking

Being a young cat I've had a bebo page for about a year now and I find it very helpful because I have some friends and family overseas so it is good to be able to keep up to date with their lives (as long as they are putting up regular photos and comments), you can leave comments and "bebo" each other, its a good way of keeping in contact even with friends. I find that even though we still live in the same area we see each other less and bebo is just another way of keeping in contact no matter where in the country or world they are.
Myspace is just another music and video site I think I prefer you tube, however you can search for people on myspace but i dont find it that exciting or original.
Face book, i have a few friends on face book and have checked it out before but I barely get time to go onto my bebo site that im abit weary of creating yet another page for people to hound me to check. But I think I may give in and join the facebook revolution. The cool and possible original thing about facebook is that you can send other facebookers presents or bomb them and they actually show up on screen so it looks a bit more fun than bebo but we will see.

Week Ono - Part 2 (Library 2.0 &Web 2.0)

I read through two of the web 2.0 articles and those were Into a new world of librarianship and To a temporary place in time. These were just the basic new age articles on the ever incraesing technology and how it is going to effect the library and the librarians. It is just normal that with technology comes advancements in all other areas of life its been like that forever, its just how we deal with it that is the thing. We can let technology take over our libraries and take over our jobs, but I believe the librarian will never be obsolete no matter how fancy the libraries get whether its Web 3.0, 4.0 or 10.0 some customers just enjoy the library atmosphere and the riveting conversation with the librarians.
It is important to keep up with the trends and be able to offer those services to the customers as well as the original library service but it is getting the right mix that is whats important

Week Ono - Del.icio.us & Technorati

So far I think Del.icio.us is an awsome bookmarking site as it would be very handy to have all your regular sites saved to the net rather then on your own personal computer making them accesible from wherever you have internet access. I have now signed up to Del.icio.us and have got all my favourites and most regularly visited sites all there waitning for me I think it is very handy and pretty easy to use too.

Technorati, I think this would be very good for you if you are into news and sports and enjoy reading and talking about it with others and finding out others opinions on subjects. Im not really into this kind of thing as I dont know it just doesnt really interest me quite plainly I guess. You get different search results when you look up a keyword search on Learning 2.0, different i mean as in the posts or search's by tags show up stories that people have posted while blogs seem to be more of a learning 2.0 focused blog where the posts or tags are just certain stories about learning 2.0.
The favourites at the moment are quite amusing as Jennifer Garner is at number 4 and men at number 5 under the top searches.

Week Rima - Wiki's and PBWiki

I found the Wiki's to be rather boring, i know they would be a good source of information that can be shared but it really depends on what sort of information you are looking for and for me that isn't really it. For one thing Wiki's are where people who register can write up what they think of the topic but they can be based on no real fact or even made up depending on the person writing it so I wouldn't really be able to trust sources from those sort of sites.

I think libraries could use a wiki to review and recommend books and other library items to each other and possibly include an overview of the book to help other patrons find there next book to read.

PBWiki, as in the manukaulearn wiki is interesting because you can find out what sort of things your colleagues like however you could do that with the blog or with talking to them and asking, or by using many of the other sites we have been visiting.

Week Wha - Flickr and Technology

Well I used flickr in play week to make my mosaic of my cartoon pictures so this week I made Winnie the Pooh and Tweety Bird trading cards. The thing with these are that I don't have the photos i would like to be working with as I have been using the work computers and cannot get onto some of the sites I would have been able to get some photos off. I don't have the internet at home because I am a poor student, so I have made do with my cute cartoon characters but I think they have still turned out well.
I have used Picasa before as a photo gallery and to combine photos onto a disc etc so I have had a little experience with those aspects of week 4 already.

Now the bit of technology I will be talking about today is the PSP which is made by Sony. For those who do not know what PSP stands for it is a Playstation Portable.
It all started with the original Playstation which was a game where the console connected to your TV, then they bought out the Playstation 2 which had better graphics, this console however was thought to be too bulky so they then introduced the Playstation 2 slim line (which I still have one of those.). After the slim line they introduced the glorious PSP.
Now I will tell you why I will be buying one of these in the very near future. The PSP is as you guessed it, portable the controls are on either side of the screen and are very similar to the original games controller to keep the playstation look. It can play games with cool graphics, it can play its own DVDs which are smaller than normal DVDs and you can play it wherever you go. In the car, in your room at lunch on your break the possibilities are almost endless. Also you can charge your PSP either from a power point in your home or in any building, charge it from your PC (computer), and you can even charge it in a car as you can get a car charger that fits into the car lighter port.
I mostly want a PSP so when my flatmates are playing there games that I don't like or can't play on the big TV in the lounge I can sit there and play my PSP and NOT be antisocial. It is also good to watch a movie in the car on those long trips especially since you can get a car charger and not have to worry about the batteries going flat.

Also I thought as a help I would add photos of each playstion, ending with the PSP.
I will not introduce the PS 3 into the equation because I wont be getting one of those in the near future but it wont be that far off. ;)

Week Toru - Flickr, Library Thing & Rollyo

Well I have created a couple of fun things like my mosaic and library dog tags which were fun i also found out my ideal phone was a tiny phone called a microphone, there was way to many things that I played with I didn't want to add them all to my blog so I only added those few.

I have my own library shelves now thanks to Library Thing the hard part is thinking of all the book titles that I wanted to add. But this weeks work has been fun and has taken me a long time to finish because I was playing so much with all the things from the generator. Any way I thought I'd add the link to my Library so: http://www.librarything.com/catalog/LiLGurL

I think that having my own search tool thanks to Library Thing is awsome it even has my name on it!
Now I have two personal search tools with both of them added on to my blog site its pretty cool. Rollyo was a bit confusing though plus trying to think of websites to add considering I just google everything, but as a trial I just put in websites such as wikipedia, dictionary, thesaurus etc, just to get my own search tool it wasn't too complicated.

Week Rua - Bloglines & RSS feeds

So this bloglines was a bit harder then the first week but once you start just going with the flow its not too bad it just takes awhile to get used to. I think it would have been easier if what was on our instructions page we could actually get into like for example the you tube look at bloglines, which could have made things alot easier. I think though it was more time consuming rather then difficult but thats only if I have done it right myself. Finding feeds from the searches are hard because when I get to that point I never know what to look up and the top 100 are too random, but thats about the hardest part of the searching. Making my blog roll public was also very simple with the instructions that were on the learning 2.0 page.

Week Tahi - Blog start up

Well this is my first time having a blog, had a few problems getting the picture i wanted on here so I had to use another one and I wasn't sure whether to use my nickname as my alias or my real name or make one up, so that was pretty much all the hassle I had so all and all I found it pretty easy.
Being able to suss out what I'm doing on here during work time is pretty cool and I don't mind helping if anyones having trouble.
I'm going to try and type properly rather than in text language so good luck to myself on that and I'l be posting more messages on here later so bye for now.
